The Young Journalist is excited to announce it has received a generous grant provided under the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation’s New Era Writers Program, which aims to inspire individuals to learn to write or support improving their current abilities. “We believe that one of the most important life skills is learning to be an effective writer and communicator. We support programs that will provide those seeking to learn with the knowledge and skills to express themselves through the art of writing.”
The Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation was established by Cornelia T. Bailey in 2007 to promote the arts, education, and initiatives that seek to better our world by utilizing nature and the sciences. During her life she enjoyed supporting philanthropic organizations centered on education, veteran outreach, medical research, and, most significantly, the arts in all forms.
The Young Journalist, founded in 2018, is currently mentoring over 150 students, nurturing journalism’s intellectual curiosity and instilling a lifelong love of writing by mentoring third, fourth and fifth-grade students in the creation of their very own published essays. The program is currently available as a free offering of the School District of Indian River School District’s “Extended Day” program, as well as the Gifford Youth Achievement Center.
The Young Journalist is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Please visit www.theyoungjournalist.com or The Young Journalist on Facebook.
