Fellsmere Elementary

Indian River County, FL. January 29th, 2020. The Young Journalist Nonprofit Organization of Indian River County, FL has expanded to Fellsmere Elementary.  13 students there have enrolled in the program.

The Young Journalist Program is an “Extended Day” offering by the School District of Indian River County. Elementary schools participating in the program include Liberty Magnet, Rosewood Magnet, Treasure Coast Elementary and Indian River Academy.  Now with Fellsmere Elementary, there are 40 students participating in the program throughout the District.

The mission of The Young Journalist is to nurture intellectual curiosity and instill a lifelong love of writing by mentoring 4th and 5th grade students in the creation of their very own published bylines.


Using a developed curricula, the Young Journalists Mentors help grow writers, and through their writing helps grow readers. It emphasizes reading to support writing and writing to support reading. Reading, be it through research or absorbing other journalists writings, and each other’s writings, supports further writing. The Program meets 29 of the Language Arts Florida Standards (LAFS) for grade five. 


The Young Journalist Program is underwritten by T. T. Online News Corp., a 501 (C) (3) Nonprofit Organization.
